The main scene of the entire film was shot in Taipei this summer (2023)
Story
A former DEA agent and a former undercover agent revisit their romance during a fateful weekend in Taipei, unaware of the dangerous consequences of their past. A building in Xinyi District, the Kelti International Building, stands in for Kwang’s headquarters but only in the opening scene.
The only redeeming feature of Weekend in Taipei was Taipei itself
The original decals indicating the building’s address are shown in a later shot. The cinematography managed to capture some beautiful shots of the city and the culture.
Unfortunately, that’s where the positives end
The film was inconsistent, with characters that felt one-dimensional and hard to connect with. All the emotional moments were weighed down by poor dialogue, making it hard to feel for the characters.
The action parts (aside from a few opening sequences) were disappointing
It’s a shame that such a gorgeous setting was wasted on a standard, boring popcorn action flick. If you’re hoping for a gripping story, you won’t find it here.
