After years of losing touch, they reunite in an extreme but strangely endearing situation
Story
Ingrid and Martha were close friends in their youth, working together at the same magazine. When Pedro Almodóvar sent Tilda Swinton the script, he asked her who should play Ingrid.
They both had Julianne Moore in mind
Presented in The 7PM Project: September 8, 2024 Episode (2024). It’s hard to imagine a more stylish, elegant, and sophisticated film about death than this latest achievement by Pedro Almodóvar.
The set design, color choices, and costume choices make it an aesthetic delight that’s almost too extravagant
My problem is that the film never finds the depth that should be required when dealing with such a serious and profound subject. Should you have the freedom and autonomy to decide for yourself whether it’s time to end your life or not?
However, the long dialogue felt wooden and too formulaic for my taste
Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore do their best to focus on this issue, which describes a close friendship facing its final and most difficult challenge. I was surprised by the visual richness of the film, but it never moved me emotionally, which is what I expected from a director as great as Almodovar.
