Abel is a high school student who struggles to concentrate on his final exams while being hopelessly in love with his best friend Janka
Due to the subject matter of the film, the Hungarian government did not fund the film, so it had a small budget and a small crew.
Most of the actors who play in it are the writer and director, friends of Gabor Reiss, students or teachers
Although the synopsis emphasizes the love story, the film is mainly about the problems of a divided society and how a small incident can have far-reaching consequences when it becomes political.
All of this is beautifully woven into a final story of love, exams and family relationships
The story is very Hungarian, but it can be just as interesting for an international audience, especially one where political divisions affect all levels of society.
Highly recommended (as were Gábor Reisz’s two previous films)
The film was made on a very small budget, with virtually no funding, but the brilliant acting and captivating story really make you forget that fact.
