Angelina Jolie and director Pablo Larrain talk about connecting with the heartbreaking true story of world-famous opera singer Maria Callas
Story
Maria Callas, the world’s greatest opera singer, spends the last days of her life in 1970s Paris, wrestling with her identity and her life. . . The third and final film in Pablo Larraín’s so-called “Lady in High Heels” trilogy of biographical films about women in the lead role, after “Jackie” (2016) and “Spencer” (2021)..
I feel like flattery
Maria Callas: Book me a table at the cafe where the waiters know who I am. Mentioned in the film “Close-up: Why do we need the Venice Film Festival?” (2024). Othello, Act 4: “Ave Maria” (Desdemona) Performed by Maria Callas, Orchestre de la Société des Concerts du Conservatoire Conductor: Nicola Resino Screenplay by Giuseppe Verdi, Arrigo Boito Released by Warner Classics, (p.) 1964 Parlophone Records Limited Remastered 2014 Parlophone Records Limited. It just seemed fake
I really wanted to like this movie, but I couldn’t believe Angelina Jolie was an opera singer. From the very first scene, I couldn’t believe it was her singing. I don’t know why these producers didn’t take the risk of hiring a real opera singer? Or at least someone on Broadway who could convince us.
The script wasn’t that interesting
There is a lot more that could be said about this extraordinary woman. Someone said the story was weak, and I agree. I didn’t like her accent either. On the other hand, I liked the clothes and the scenery.
