Divine G, incarcerated in Sing-Sing for a crime he didn’t commit, finds purpose in life by performing in a theater group with other inmates in this story of resilience, humanity, and the transformative power of art. At the beginning of the film, the actors try out for different roles in the play.

Saw this film last night at a blind screening at our local theater complex
I probably wouldn’t have decided to watch it if I knew what it was, but I’m grateful that I knew. The touching, honest portrayals of some of the cast he portrays (especially Clarence McLean and Sean Johnson) and the work of Coleman Domingo are his strengths.
Makes you think
The cinematography and direction add sincerity to the performances without overpowering them and using an approach that creates the feeling that the viewer is watching the conversations and events, rather than consuming them. Restrained.
